Lawn Watering Schedule in Greater Montreal

  • Irrigate either early morning or in the evening to minimize water lost to evaporation. Also, check and follow the required by-laws on water use in your area, this is a watering plants and lawns by-laws apply to all of Ville de Montréal's 19 boroughs;

By means of sprinklers or soader hoses

  • 8 p.m. - 11 p.m.

  • On even-numbered dates at even-numbered addresses

  • On odd-numbered dates at odd-numbered addresses

Hand watering plants (borders, gardens, garden landscapes, trees, etc.)

  • Allowed at all times if the hose is equipped with a manual shut-off spray gun

Automatic watering system

  • 3 a.m. - 6 a.m. (during the night)

  • On even-numbered dates at even-numbered addresses

  • On odd-numbered dates at odd-numbered addresses

  • The system must be equipped with a soil moisture sensor

  • If your lawn is subject to fungi, water in the early morning so excess moisture can evaporate. 

  • Start a watering schedule in time for the growing season, after the soil has partially dried. 

  • Water daily on newly seeded or over-seeded areas until they are established.

New lawn

  • A new lawn, newly planted trees or shrubs or a new landscape may be watered every day, using a portable sprinkler, soaker hose or automatic watering system, for a period of 15 days following the start of seeding, planting or sod-laying operations.
